Where the Fireflies Linger
10/04/2022
Purple Twilight
when he snuck through the gates
and weaved through tall grass
tickling through denim
and gnarled trees, ageless
Guardians.
and it was he who
saw the moon full,
Over the distant horizon.
Continued.
Onwards through crumbled Stone:
the Echoes of reminders,
Long past.
at last, he found the One
Curved stone. Beveled edge, reading
the name all too familiar on the
Granite surface, riddled
with moss, and
the somber Decay time.
And as the rivers formed on his
cheeks, cool against the Sticky breeze,
wet eyes saw fireflies.
Twinkling dewdrops of starlight
Rising and fading
a hapless tide, unto a Long night.
where the fireflies Linger,
there too is his Love.
